The Friench Simpson Memorial Library is proud to announce the opening of its World War I poster exhibit “Weapons of Mass Communication”. The exhibit will be available for public viewing during library hours until August 31st.
The exhibit, which is a blend of reproduction posters and original chromolithographs, is an excellent example of how the poster was a major tool for broad dissemination during the war.
The exhibit consists of original chromolithographs by E.G. Renesch donated by Audrey Barrera, reproductions from the US Government Printing Office donated by Kevin Bright along with posters illustrating the American Library Association project that built 40 camp libraries in the United States during the war.
For more information about the exhibit and our ongoing speakers series on World War I topics, please call the library, 361-798-3243, during regular business hours. The library hours are Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; Wednesday and Friday 11:30 am to 5:30 pm and 9:00 am to noon on Saturday. The library is closed Sunday and Monday.
